The Perfect Diamond Engagement Ring

Tip #1 - Look on Social Media for Inspiration
Pinterest and Instagram were created for a reason; to show off and inspire others with beautiful, amazing photos (especially of jewelry and rings) Search #engagementring on either app or website to see hundreds of thousands of varieties of rings to draw inspiration from. Better yet- why not check out 90210 Jewelry’s social media pages (links in the footer!) After browsing for awhile, you’ll find yourself liking similar styles and shapes which will create the foundation for your shopping experience.

Tip #2 - Read Gossip Magazines and Websites
Us Weekly and People magazines not only keep you up to date on all things pop culture, but they also help you see which celebrities’ styles influence you. Look at red carpet photos to see what jewelry designs catch your eye and take note- did Jennifer Lawrence’s vintage bracelet take your breath away? Was Kate Winslet’s modern right hand ring something you felt you HAD to have for your love? The items that you find to be most appealing can help determine the style of the ring you ultimately pick.

Tip #3 - Learn the 4 C’s
Educating yourself on the 4 C’s of diamonds- cut, clarity, color, and carat- will not only help you decide on what diamond to buy, but it’ll also make you have fun facts to spew at cocktail parties. Here’s what you need to know:

CUT - Square cut or pear shaped, these rocks don’t lose their shape. (or so the song lyrics go) A diamond’s cut refers to its shape. A round diamond is the most classic, but there are other styles to fall in love with like a princess, marquise, emerald, cushion, pear, heart, asscher, radiant, and oval. Beyond making a fashion statement, the cut is the most important element as the cut determines the diamond’s brilliance and beauty based on how the light reflects on/in it.

CLARITY - Nobody (and nothing) is perfect. With diamonds, the imperfections- or inclusions- make up the clarity grade. Finding a diamond with few to no inclusions is graded Flawless for clarity while a diamond with visible inclusions to the naked eye would be graded an I. There are several grades in between.

COLOR - A diamond’s color grade is measured in the absence of color. A “D” grade color (meaning little to no color) is optimal, but all color grades are chosen based on preference and budget.

CARAT - A diamond’s size is measured in carats, and this is the easiest C to remember and understand. While a large diamond can be impressive, bigger doesn’t always mean better; that’s because the other C’s determine a diamond’s beauty with it.

Tip #4 - Be Practical
It’s important to consider your significant other’s lifestyle when choosing a ring. Yes, a four carat emerald cut ring would look impressive on any hand but if your love works with their hands a lot- like a dentist or a hairdresser- it doesn’t quite make sense for everyday wear. Think practically on what the carat size and setting will mean for their occupation and you’ll get the most out of your purchase.

Tip #5 - Match the Ring to the Personality
Engagement rings come in many shapes and styles nowadays so thinking of who your loved one is will help make finding the perfect ring easier. A classic diamond solitaire ring is perfect for some traditional wearers while a more fashion-forward person would prefer a more outlandish, stylish and non-classic look. Take into consideration their sense of style, their need/want to stand out and their preferences for art and fashion.

Tip #6 - Don’t Stress (and trust your instincts)
Proposing should be an amazing memory, not something that makes you sweat over. If you’re torn on what design to choose or cut to pick, it’s perfectly acceptable to ask someone close to your significant other for their opinion as well. More often than not, your love has been dropping hints on what ring style loved to everyone around them to help eradicate the guesswork for you. Don’t be afraid to reach out for assistance, (just make sure it’s someone you can trust if you’re keeping the proposal a surprise).
