Conflict-Free Diamonds & Gemstones

Just like our customers, we care where our diamonds come from. As part of our proud tradition in offering exceptional quality jewelry, 90210 Jewelry has a zero-tolerance policy towards conflict diamonds, aka blood diamonds. Our ethically sourced diamond and gemstone collection is curated through the strict internal policies and the external measures of the Kimberley Process.

The Kimberley Process tracks diamonds from mine to market in partnership with retailers and companies like 90210 Jewelry as well as experts in the diamond industry, the United Nations, governments, and non-governmental organizations. These entities together help police diamond exports to prevent the trade of illegal diamonds.

The entire 90210 Jewelry team is committed to supporting all processes that work to uphold legitimacy in the diamond trade. We hold this promise to our customers and the jewelry industry with high regard.

What are “blood diamonds”?

Because of civil unrest in African regions in the 1990s, rebel armies were exploiting diamond mines and fields to fund their wars against established governments, putting people and the environment in the middle of their conflicts. The workers in these areas were often very young and became subject to inconceivable working conditions, with some losing their lives or limbs as part of the terrible working conditions and treatment. The term blood diamond began to describe these types of gems to highlight the ultimate sacrifice these innocent people had to endure.

Kimberley Compliant and America's Patriot Act

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) was founded to certify the origin of rough diamonds from sources known to be conflict-free. First adopted by southern African diamond producing countries in 2000, the established guidelines for the KPCS were later adopted by the United Nations. The process includes tracking diamonds from their place of origin to delivery. Polished diamonds sold in the US must adhere to the Patriot Act, which requires that every US dealer maintains Kimberley compliance, or be subject to penalties from Homeland Security, the US Justice Department, and the US Treasury. It is a requirement by law and a necessity for our moral standards.
